Legend
Axial T2 (left) and Coronal T1 (right) images show bilateral basal ganglia, left frontal
subcortical white matter, and left corona radiata lesions. The lesions are T2 hyperintense,
and show both hyper- and hypointense regions on T1. No significant mass effect is
present. Generalized cerebral volume loss is present.
Legend
Single Voxel MR Spectroscopy was obtained at the level of the left basal ganglia (voxel 1),
and uninvolved occipital lobes (voxel 2). The occipital voxel shows a normal MR spectrum.
The voxel centered on the involved left basal ganglia shows a non-neoplastic spectrum
with a normal choline/creatine ratio. There is a broad metabolite peak, which incorporates
the NAA peak (at 2.0-3.0 ppm), suggesting elevated Glx, acetate, and succinate.
