Congenital Lesions

      In persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV), the primary vitreous fails to involute before birth and becomes hyperplastic. Endnote Coats' disease is an exudative retinopathy that fills the subretinal space with a lipoproteinaceous fluid. Calcification is uncommon in the "pseudogliomas" but the specific diagnoses can not always be made from the CT or MR alone. Microphthalmos is associated with PHPV. Endnote

      Anophthalmos is due to failure of development of the optic vesicle, and patients are invariably blind in the eye. It is often bilateral and may be associated with an optic vesicle cyst.
