Legend
Axial T2WI's show diffuse white matter mild hyperintensity due to decreased
myelination. On T2-weighted images in a 10 month old child, the gray-white matter
contrast should be going through an isointense phase. The lateral ventricles are
moderately enlarged, indicating some central volume loss.
Legend
Axial FLAIR images look like T1-weighted images because of the
decreased myelination. Flow artifact is noted in the fourth ventricle.
Legend
Axial T1WI's show some myelination of the brain stem, middle cerebellar peduncles,
corpus callosum, and posterior limbs of the internal capsules, and minimal myelination
of the posterior portions of the cerebral hemispheres. In a normal 10 month old child
T1-weighted images show a more adult pattern of myelination.
